Aged Care Training ResourcesAgeing Population Creates Massive Job Growth In Aged Care

With Australia’s growing senior population, the need for more aged care workers has made it one of the fastest growing industries in the health sector. Aged care training resources help to address this need by offering nationally recognised qualifications that offer the skills and knowledge required for this job. It has helped thousands of people build new careers or switch from their existing careers and find employment opportunities in the health care sector.

Aged care training offers several career opportunities. It helps people find meaningful work while offering them better flexibility on how and where they can work. Aged care workers are employed in a variety of health care settings. Aged care services can be delivered directly into a person’s home, community aged care facilities, and in palliative care facilities.

What Are The Aged Care Training Opportunities for RTOs?

Aged care workers provide a wide range of care services that include emotional support, general household assistance, companionship, and assistance for daily living activities for aged and disabled persons. The aged care qualification also offers several career pathways. These opportunities include careers related to nursing or a career that leads to nursing.

We have seen many shifts in terms of workforce demands in some sectors of the economy through the years. These changes are primarily driven by increasing demand for care services with Australia’s rapidly ageing population. Age care training qualifications offer people searching for a new career the opportunity to be part of a rewarding and expanding industry actively searching for new workers.

This is a great opportunity for Australia’s Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) to step up and assist with delivering quality, competent graduates to the industry so aged care services have the kind of qualified staff they need to provide excellent care to their clients.

Jobs Outlook and Aged Care Worker Demand

According to Job Outlook, an initiative of the Australian Government Department of Jobs and Small Business, three in five workers in the Aged and Disabled Care sector have a Vocational Education and Training (VET) qualification.

There are currently 175,800 Aged and Disabled Carers in 2018 and this number is expected to grow to 245,000 by 2023. The growing number of job openings can be traced to new job openings but mostly come from workers leaving. At this rate, there will be 179,000 job openings over 5 years, or approximately 35,800 job openings annually.
