July 2023 PSP Training Package Update
The Australian Skills Quality Authority (ASQA) has just rolled out some important Public Sector (PSP) training package updates. PSP50916 Diploma of Interpreting (LOTE-English) and PSP60916 Advanced Diploma of Interpreting (LOTE-English) have been granted a newly approved extended transition period.
With this PSP training update, RTOs have more time to manage transition, assessment, and certificate issuance to their students for these qualifications effectively. The extended training period for PSP50916 will now end on 31 July 2024, while PSP60916’s extended period concludes on 31 January 2024.
RTOs need to remember that all students enrolled in the said qualifications must either complete the course or switch to the replacement qualification before the new transition end date. This ensures a smooth transition for learners.
ASQA considers the Guidance for Providers – Learner Transition and carefully reviews transition requests, ensuring that learners won’t face any disadvantages due to the transition.
Notably, ASQA worked closely with the VRQA and TAC WA during the process of considering these extended transition requests.
Both PSP50916 and PSP60916 will remain on RTOs’ scopes of registration until the end of the approved extended transition period. This extra time can be a significant advantage for managing learners’ progress and making sure they smoothly transition to the new qualifications.
March 2023 PSP Training Package Update
In the March 2023 PSP training package update, ASQA has granted an extended transition period for the PSP40116 Certificate IV in Government qualification, exclusively for RTO 47026 TAFE SA and a specific cohort of students – namely, South Australia Police (SAPOL) students who enrolled on or before the July 2022 cadet intake.
The extended period for training, assessment, and certification issuance will conclude on 31 July 2023.
This decision was made with the support of Skills IQ and the Government of South Australia, Department of Education. ASQA collaborated with VRQA and TAC WA to review this request for an extended transition period.
The qualification will continue to be listed on the provider’s scope of registration until the conclusion of the approved extended transition period.
February 2023 PSP Training Package Update
There is an extension in the transition period for PSP40516 Certificate IV in Trade Measurement as approved by the Australian Skills Quality Authority (ASQA) last 22 February 2023.
The new transition period for the Public Sector (PSP) training package update is now until 30 June 2023. Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) can still deliver training until the said date to complete the superseded qualification under the Public Sector training package.
However, it’s important to note that the approval of extension only covers training delivery for continuing students only. RTOs with PSP40516 included in their scope of registration are required to complete all forms of training delivery on or before the approved training period deadline unless they choose to withdraw it from the scope prior.
