4 October 2023 UEE Training Package Update: Extended Transition Period for UEE Electrotechnology Qualifications

The Australian Skills Quality Authority (ASQA) has given the green light to an extended transition period for eight essential qualifications within the UEE Electrotechnology Training Package.

This move follows ASQA’s authority to extend transition periods when there is a compelling need, as Clause 1.26(a) of the Standards for Registered Training Organisations 2015 stipulated.

31 January 2025, New Transition Deadline

The following qualifications will now see an extension of the transition period for training, assessment, and certification issuance until 31 January 2025:

UEE Training Package Release 5.0

  • UEE41920 Certificate IV in Electrical – Renewable Energy
  • UEE42020 Certificate IV in Electrical – Photovoltaic Systems
  • UEE43120 Certificate IV in Energy Efficiency and Assessment
  • UEE50120 Diploma of Computer Systems Engineering
  • UEE50711 Diploma of Renewable Energy Engineering
  • UEE60920 Advanced Diploma of Renewable Energy Engineering
  • UEE62020 Advanced Diploma of Engineering Technology – Renewable Energy

UEE Training Package Release 6.0

  • UEE41220 Certificate IV in Electrical – Rail Signalling

However, it’s crucial to understand that the extension applies exclusively to students who have officially commenced their training and assessment by the specified deadlines of 19 December 2023 and 7 February 2024 for UEE Training Package Releases 5.0 and 6.0, respectively.

It’s crucial to emphasise that all affected students must complete their training and receive certification or be seamlessly transferred to the replacement training program by the new transition end date.

Why the Extension?

Many learners must present evidence of genuine disadvantages to meet ASQA’s criteria for extending a transition period if it is denied.

In this context, ASQA has determined that extending the transition period for the abovementioned UEE qualifications is imperative.

ASQA has closely collaborated with the Victorian Registration and Qualifications Authority and the Training Accreditation Council of Western Australia regarding this extended transition period. As a result, the affected training products will remain within the scope of registration for Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) until the extended transition period concludes.

The extended transition period aims to ensure a smooth transition for learners and training providers as they adjust to the updated UEE Electrotechnology Training Package. The overarching aim is to ensure that no student is disadvantaged during this transformative period.
