13 April 2023: NCVER’s No Frills 2023 Conference Now Open for Registration

The 32nd National Vocational Education and Training Research Conference, “No Frills”, is now open for registration! From 19 to 21 July 2023, interested VET stakeholders can attend the face-to-face conference held at the Storey Hall of RMIT University’s Melbourne City Campus.

NCVER’s No Frills 2023 Keynote Speakers

For this year, the line-up of keynote speakers will be sharing their experiences regarding the challenges and opportunities that Australia’s VET industry is facing. The speakers are:

  • Hon Brendan O’Connor MP, Australian Government Minister for Skills and Training;
  • Peter Dawkins AO, Interim Director, Jobs and Skills Australia
  • Danielle Wood, Chief Executive Officer, Grattan Institute
  • John Silvester, Crime reporter

NCVER’s No Frills 2023 Program

Overall, the jam-packed program will include a Ministerial address, two keynote presentations, an interactive discussion panel, 40 concurrent presentations, and four pre-conference PD workshops, which are all great opportunities to enhance your expertise regarding the VET industry.

23 February 2023: NCVER Call for Abstract Submissions For No Frills 2023 Conference

The National VET Research Conference (NCVER) is calling for abstract submissions as part of the 32nd face-to-face conference to be held on 19 – 21 July 2023 at RMIT University Melbourne City Campus.

With the theme “Skilling Australia’s Current and Future Workforce”, the ‘No Frills’ annual conference, invites VET sector stakeholders including industry, government, practitioners, peak bodies, and researchers to take part in the event by sending their abstract following the theme.

Abstract topics

Interested participants can choose from a range of topics including:

  • Skilling workers in priority areas
  • Mastering technology to skill for the future
  • VET and STEM
  • Upskilling and reskilling vocational trainers and assessors
  • Examining different modalities of teaching and learning
  • Accelerating pathways within VET
  • Supporting inclusivity and disadvantaged groups

Guidelines and criteria

Additionally, NCVER has set up abstract guidelines for participants who will be submitting their piece:

  • Submissions must be made online
  • Must have a maximum of 2,000 characters or approximately 300 words
  • Must have a title that reflects the content
  • Must follow the selection criteria
    • Aligned to the theme
    • Has a clear abstract
    • Must appeal to the audience
    • Must introduce ‘practical’ takeaways
  • Abstracts that are still in progress as well as completed ones are accepted

The deadline for submissions of the call for abstracts for the No Frills 2023 Conference will be on 10 March 2023, Friday. Participants who have submitted will be notified of the outcome of their submission by the following week, 17 March 2023.

The deadline for the 2023 AVETMISS Reporting has passed

The last submissions were due on 28th February 2023. However, RTOs with a VET Regulation exemption and who received a file to report aggregate data can submit until 31st March 2023, at 5 PM (ACDT).

RTOs were required to submit data for training activity that occurred in 2022. If training providers did not have any enrolments or did not start their training in the past year, they were expected to submit a nil return.

time).
