New TAE Training Package Update: What You Should Know

Meet the Current Training and Assessment Industry Demands with the New TAE Training Package

The Australian Skills Quality Authority (ASQA) has announced the release of Version 5 of the new TAE Training Package last 13 January 2023. The new version includes the new TAE40122 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment, the Diploma of Vocational Education and Training, and a variety of skill sets.

The updated TAE40122 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment is the latest qualification to supersede TAE40116 Certificate in Training and Assessment which is also its equivalent. The recently issued TAE50122 Diploma of Vocational Education and Training combines the former TAE Diploma credentials – TAE50116 Diploma of Vocational Education and Training and TAE50216 Diploma of Training Design and Development. The latest TAE qualification offers specialised pathways as described in the qualification’s packaging regulations.

In addition to the release of the TAE update, ASQA has also announced a transition extension for providers currently delivering the following qualifications:

The mentioned qualifications will stay on ASQA’s registered RTOs scope of registration until 9 December 2024, which is the deadline for the extended transition period. RTOs may also choose to withdraw the qualifications from their scope prior to the deadline.

These changes are being made to ensure that the new TAE Training Package remains relevant and current in the training and education sector.

Should Trainers & Assessors Update Their Certifications to the Latest TAE Qualification?

While there is currently no requirement to attain the new TAE40122 and TAE50122 for existing trainers and assessors, there are still several requirements that they must meet to pursue their training delivery.

These requirements are as follows:

• They currently hold the TAE40116 Certificate in Training and Assessment;
• They currently hold the TAE40110 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment plus the two additional units of competency from TAE40116

ASQA encourages all providers who are currently delivering the previous qualifications to review the latest TAE qualifications and to begin planning for the transition to the new version as soon as possible. Providers are also encouraged to seek support and advice from industry bodies and peak organisations to ensure a smooth transition.

What the TAE Update Means for Your RTO

Since ASQA’s new TAE training package release has prompted the superseding of the other qualifications, there are several important things that your RTO should consider so it maintains its relevancy in the industry:

• Prepare an in-depth transition plan for the affected qualifications
• Apply early for your scope of registration so you can start marketing, enrolling, and conducting training and assessment as soon as possible
• Update your own trainers’ and assessors’ certifications so they are qualified to deliver the new training package
• Ensure that your students finish the course before the transition deadlines
